Is Plexus Physical Therapy open at this time?

Physical therapy is classified as one of the essential medical services. We will be open to support those who need our services. In order to help control the spread of the pandemic, we are offering telehealth online appointments as well as in person appointments.

Is it safe to attend in-person physical therapy at this time?

We can all work together to minimize the risk of infection and the safest thing to do is to maintain social distancing. Telehealth physical therapy allows you to stay home while still improving your health through online physical therapy.

For patients attending in person, our program to control infection includes:

  • Cleaning - All tables and equipment that patient and staff contacts will be cleaned with alcohol or disinfectant after each use. All person at Plexus will wash their hands before and after therapy.

  • Screening - All staff and patients will measure their temperature and blood oxygen saturation levels for signs of infection.

  • Distancing - All patients will be kept 6 ft away from each other. Staff will minimize contact and proximity to patients when possible, while providing effective hands on therapy as appropriate.

  • Mask - All staff and patients will wear masks of the highest protective value available. Single use disposable masks will be provided for patients upon request.

  • Scheduling - Scheduling will be rearranged to reduce patient overlap and number of persons in the office. Volunteer programs are temporarily suspended to reduce personnel exposure.

  • Vaccination - All of our therapists have been vaccinated for COVID, unless they are pregnant or otherwise not suited for the vaccine at this time.

telehealth: Therapy without leaving home?

We offer telehealth physical therapy visits, in which you online video conference with your physical therapist through the camera and microphone on your phone, tablet, or computer. This allows you to interact with your therapist from home, consult about your condition, progress, and receive guidance and correction on exercises, stretches, and other aspects of your care.

So I can have amy appointment from anywhere?

You can attend telehealth PT from just about anywhere that you have sufficient internet connectivity for video conferencing. State law permits us to provide physical therapy services to individuals in California.

Telehealth: is it difficult?

Our telehealth system is not difficult. You need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a video camera and microphone. You simply click on the link to your therapist’s virtual waiting room and you will be connected. No software installation is necessary.

Telehealth: What will we do?

Through the use of medically secure video conferencing, we will do what physical therapists do best:

  1. Evaluate the connection between your movements and your symptoms

  2. Understand the cause of your functional limitations

  3. Develop a program to improve the underlying causes: body mechanics, posture, life habits, tissue injury, strength and flexibility

  4. Improve your symptoms and your capacity to live life the way you want

telehealth: is it as effective as in person physical therapy?

We love hands on physical therapy and we do believe the human touch is invaluable. Unfortunately at this time, we must prioritize the safety of our community and its most vulnerable members. That being said, we have had great success helping people through telehealth physical therapy. Education, exercise, and self management strategies play a huge part of a person’s recovery. Telehealth still provides the one on one connection and attention that we prize in the physical therapy process. We have adapted to this “new normal” way of helping people in these extraordinary times, and we are glad for the results that we have seen.

Does my insurance pay for tele-health PT?

To encourage people to maintain social distancing, not only are most insurances covering tele-health, several have waived copays if you are attending a tele-health session instead of an in person appointment. Please contact your insurance company to find out if your plan provides such coverage. To our current knowledge, medicare, Aetna, Optum UHC, Anthem Blue Cross, and Blue Shield of California are covering telehealth PT on many of their plans.

Should I attend physical therapy in person?

We do not recommend anyone over 75, or anyone over 70 who has chronic conditions such as respiratory issues, cardiac conditions, cancer history, diabetes history to attend in-person physical therapy at this time. For everyone else, please consult with your government orders, your physician’s orders, and your own priorities to decide if in-person physical therapy is appropriate for you. Please consider tele-health as a safe and valuable alternative.

what about the classes? taichi, parkinson, balance?

In person group classes are currently held virtually on Zoom to support the health and safety of our community. As much as we love our classes and our students, the importance of controlling the current pandemic takes priority.
